The KOLPING Johannesburg Family is the oldest Kolping "family" in South Africa. It was established in 1952 by German immigrants, who left Germany after World War II.

Kolping "families" are Diocesan or Parish branches of he Kolping Society of South Africa, which is a Catholic lay-membership organisation based on the gospel of Jesus Christ, the social teachings of the Church and the ideals of founder, Father Adolph Kolping. It is forms part of the international Kolping movement, which has more than 400 000 members, working in more than 60 countries around the world.

The Kolping Johannesburg Family is Diocese-based, and has three affiliated Families in the Archdiocese of Johannesburg. They are the Mndeni, Zandspruit and Riverlea Families.
